The absolute worst moving experience in our lives. This made my wife and I’s 4th “professional” move since being married. Unigroup and some of their subs were among the least professional, crooked, dishonest people we’ve ever dealt with.

The overarching issue is their movers lost and damaged more than 51 items. I say “more than 51” because I have undeniable proof of ownership and condition prior to my move for 51 of the lost/damaged items: 4 witnesses, 158 pictures, 3 hrs of video at the origin and 7 witnesses, 91 pictures, 1.5 hrs of video at destination. But even with all that evidence, 38 items ($1,683.13) were denied reimbursement.

One huge issue we had in not getting things reimbursed is that we were denied the 75 days to inspect/report loss/damage after delivery. Even though it’s stated throughout their policy, email correspondence, and phone conversations, I was just flat out denied anything reported after the delivery day. The only items I was reimbursed for were items I noted at time of delivery. Note, 85% of my belongings were in boxes, so it was impossible for me to determine loss/damage for 85% of my stuff at delivery.

Another problem I had was the fact that I had my belongings delivered to a storage facility. But I did that because that’s what they instructed me to do in the first place! My authorized days of SIT (storage in transit) was going to expire before my house was built/complete. Rae Hickinbotham told me on Aug 3, 2012 that I could pay extra to have SIT extended, but I would lose my full coverage insurance on the original SIT expiration date and not have a grace period to submit loss/damage (the 75 days after delivery). In other words, I would be unable to thoroughly inspect my items (in their storage facility) and would not be allowed to submit claims after the originally expiration date, nor be covered when items were eventually delivered. Obviously, that was not an option. Another option she told me about was if I secured a private storage facility and had goods delivered there, I would have 75 days after delivery to inspect/report damage/loss and still be covered during delivery. Well, that turned out to be a lie.

They also kept telling me that I had moved my belongings from the destination (the storage facility) before reporting claims. This is one of the primary reasons I know they didn’t even look at any of the evidence I uploaded with the claims report. Every picture I sent them of the damages was taken in the storage facility (the destination location)! In fact, between all of the destination pictures I sent (91 pictures), my 6 other witnesses were caught in the frame of the pictures on more than one occasion as well. So I have undeniable proof that I did the inspection at the destination location, and I received a claim confirmation number when I submitted the claims report 32 days after delivery (I have a confirmation number).

And here’s more proof that they didn’t look at any of the evidence. I had one item damaged (lamp was dropped/shattered) at the origin by the movers right in front of all my witnesses in which I took pictures of with the movers feet shown at the debris site. In addition, I had a CFL broken in my basement and a hole punched in one of the bedrooms by the movers as well. I’ll copy/paste Unigroup’s denial response to those 3 items as I couldn’t make this up if I tried…

“Denied – No loss and/or damage to this item was noted at the time of delivery. Furthermore, item was moved again from the original destination address before the carrier was notified of any loss and/or damage. Therefore, since the is no documentation that established the loss and/or damage was due to carrier mishandling, carrier is not liable”

Heed my warning; you do not want to have anything to do with these people. They are the most crooked/dishonest people I’ve ever come across.
