In medical school, I hadn't decided on a specialty. But while doing my internal medicine rotations in the United States, I really came to like the ICU. I was intrigued by how timely interventions can change the course of the disease and influence the outcome for critically ill patients. From then on, I wanted to pursue critical care medicine, and along with it, pulmonary medicine, because that's important in critical care medicine. A good knowledge of the core principles of pulmonary medicine helps me to a good critical care physician. I'm truly committed to my profession. I listen very carefully to my patients - have them explain everything in detail, figure out what's going on and then make a recovery plan for them. It's important to assure them that they're in good hands, so that they trust you to help them for whatever problem they're having.
