We love Cherokee Kennels. We've been using them for about 25 years for all three of our dogs. Our current dog is more sensitive than the other two and they take special care to make sure he's comfortable by putting him in a quieter area and things like that. I can tell they really care about the animals and are happy to see them, and vice-versa... our dogs have always been happy to go there, even the sensitive one. :-) True it's not one of those fancy resort-type kennels but that's fine with us. It's a high quality kennel in a nice setting and the price is very fair.

Great service

We have boarded 2 differant dogs over the past 10 years and very much like the staff and the service. The kennel is clean and the people there are exellant with the dogs. I like the fact that they provide everything, food, blankets and toys for the dogs if you don't want to bring your own from home. Our lab is always on some sort of medication for ear infections or alergies and they always make sure he gets it. Last summer we didn't send enough allergy tablets along and Kim went to our vet clinic and picked some more up for us. We have always felt comfortable taking Duke to Cherokee and he enjoys it too!

Being a lab, he loves the outdoors, and that is one of the reasons we like Cherokee so much, the dogs get to spend so much time outside.

Worse than the pound!

I took my dogs here for an overnight (thankfully not longer). When I spoke with the nice man on the phone earlier in the week, he told me they would take them out 3 x per day and everything sounded great. When we dropped off, the first thing I heard was a young teenage girl yelling at a dog. And when we took our dogs to the kennel they were to stay in had to walk by every dog, barking loudly of course. The setup is like a dog pound. I asked her where they took them to the bathroom and she said they just go through the dog door and go on the cement slab attached to each kennel. My dogs are not trained to go on cement, but on grass or snow. I asked about taking them out and she asked if I wanted to pay for a playtime (1.00 per dog, cheap enough). Needless to say when we picked up our traumatized dogs the next morning, the food bag was obviously not even opened as their canned food was still there unopened, same with the treats. They do provide dry food but my dogs do not eat that kind. All around a very bad experience. They are inexpensive but you know what they say, you get what you pay for! I'll take them back to 4 paws next time or get someone to come in.

We at Cherokee always try our best to make everyones stay at the kennel a positive one. While I know we can not do that 100% of the time. We do like to hear back from our clients (good and not so good) when someone has a bad expirence, we try and make sure that it does not happen again. I would like to address the problems that the client above, had with her stay. Our kennel is setup with indoor/outdoor runs. Inside, each dog has a 4'x6' or larger area and an attached outdoor run 4'x12'. In warm weather the doors are left open so the dogs can go in and out as they please. In cold or inclimate weather we keep them inside and then we let them to their outside runs 5 to 6 times daily. In addition, they are let out to a grass exersise area once a day. If dogs do not go to the bathroom on the concrete they are let out to the grass area 2 more times daily at no charge. We also offer opptional exersise ranging in price $1.00 - $5.00. All of our exersise times are individual not group play. The noise at the kennel can be loud at times, when new dogs come in everyone gets a little excited and it tends to get loud. Usally within minutes the dogs settle down and it becomes much quieter. I can assure you that it is not noisey all of the time. I live on site and can see and hear what is going on. If we see that a dog is stressed, we do try and move them to a more secluded area. We do supply Iams food and dishes for our pets, but will feed your own food also. Sometimes dogs will not eat when they first come in, so, at times there will be food left over. As for the yelling, we do call the dogs outside to the play areas and again it may sound loud, but we are not yelling at the dogs to be scolding them, only for them to be able hear us. I feel we have one of the best, most expirenced kennel staffs anywhere. We encourage people to come out and tour our kennel anytime during business hours, (you do not need to call first) so you can see for yourself if Cherokee is the right place for your pet. Again, I would like to say that we encourage you to let us know if you have any problems, so that we can address them. Thank you, Rick Urben Owner - 608-835-5250
