The Public Works Department provides a range of community services. The department has a sanitation department that offers garbage collection solutions for more than 4,500 residential, commercial and industrial customers. The sanitation department also schedules pickups for yard debris and household furniture and appliances. The Public Works Department is responsible for managing over 80 miles of streets and sidewalks. The department assists in the demolishment of blighted and abandoned structures. In addition, it operates a shop department that repairs equipment and vehicles. The Public Works Department maintains stormwater systems and ditches. The department is a part of the government of the City of Fitzgerald in Georgia.
