Founded in 1802, DuPont Teijin Films bares the name of its founder who learned to manufacture black powder at the French government s gunpowder agency. Consequently, DuPont s first product was gunpowder, which remained its sole product until 1880. In 1910, the company produced a nitrocellulose-coated fabric called Farbrikoid, its first nonexplosive product. DuPont offers a range of chemical, material and energy products, including Teflon, a coating that creates a non-stick cooking surface; Corian, a solid surface product safe for use in health care and food service environments; KEVLAR, a ballistic protection material used by law enforcement agencies; and Solae, an isolated soy protein food substance.
