Riding the Skunk train is a great family experience. You can ride from Fort Bragg to Willits and back. Expect to pay $$ as this is a tourist must.

The Skunk train is a nice ride throught the redwoods and over a winding river with many bridges. Be sure to ride when you can be outside, since the best views are from the standing open car. We took the "Barbeque" trip in the afternoon. The food was good and all you could eat, but a bit overpriced. It adds 17 dollars to the ticket, but overall worth it, since you will probably have to eat out anyway. The train singer also provided information about the area and history, and the songs were OK, but he was real nice and helpful. We rode from Fort Bragg, which was great, I can't imagine it being as good coming from Willits in the railcar, but maybe it was just as nice...
