Operational for more than 175 years, the New York State Canal Corporation preserves the legacy of waterways and towpaths. It is responsible for the operation, maintenance and promotion of several historic canals that spread across an area of over 520 miles in the New York State. The corporation transforms the canal system for foster recreation, tourism and economic development. The New York State Canal Corporation also works for the preservation of natural and historical environment. Additionally, it supports Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial, which is a yearlong celebration program. The New York State Canal Corporation is a subsidiary of the New York State Thruway Authority, which offers a range of highway and canal systems.
