Since being chartered on May 31, 1968, the Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers Beach has donated over one million dollars to the local community! Over 200 deserving students have received college scholarships from the club. In addition to that, grants and assistance have been given to other groups such as the Fort Myers Beach Elementary School, Children's Hospital and Bay Oaks Recreation Center. At the end of the year we sponsor the Kiwanis Fun Run/Walk which attracts over 200 participants. We support the local fireworks, Easter egg hunts, parades, and the Health Fair. Our "Every Child A Swimmer" program, held at Fort Myers Beach Pool, is an effort by Kiwanis to have all children in the area swimming by the age of 5. These projects are possible thanks to your support of our Thrift Shop. Located in Summerlin Square, on the corner of Pine Ridge and Summerlin Road the "Beach Kiwanis Thrift Shop" offers a large selection of pre-owned Furniture, Clothing, Kitchen Ware, Glass Ware, Dishes, Craft Supplies, Linens, Electronics, Books and Medical Equipment. Try the Salvation Army - They want your items.

Today, I attempted to drop off a very nice men's 21 speed bike and some very expensive entertainment electronics, a Kenmore vacuum cleaner and several boxes of misc. goods. These items included a complete Pioneer laser karaoke system with cables, mikes and 18 new and nearly new laser disks.

When I first arrived I went inside to get instructions on where to put my items. As I entered I spotted a very cute Christmas figurine of a cartoon style angle. I asked one of the workers how much it would be and she said she wasn't going to price it. She asked one of the other workers to price it and that worker said no she would not stop and price it either. At first I thought they were kidding but then everyone stopped talking to me and returned to what they had been doing. I never was given a price.

The male manager who came out to assist me was rude from the beginning. As he looked into the rear of my Yukon he announced that they do not take monitors or computer components of any type and was very put out that I would bring such an item. I said that was okay. I asked him if could I throw it in his 1/2 full dumpster? His answer was NO! He then informed me that it cost him money to have it emptied.

The same man was helping me unload my Yukon. As he was carrying some of my items into the store one of the female staff members came out and appeared very put out that I was bringing more items. She even asked me why I was bringing them more stuff? She then rudely informed me that they were out of room inside and that my items would have to be left on the grass. This was my 3rd bad experience with the Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis Store out of my last 3 drop offs and it will be my last.

I collected all my items that had been unloaded, even the ones that had been carried into the store, and drove them to the Salvation Army drop off located on McGregor Blvd., 1/4 mile south of Colonial Blvd, where they were very happy to receive my items. I came away from the Salvation Army with a good feeling verses feeling like I was imposing on the Kiwanis staff for donating. The Salvation Army will get all of our donations from here on out."

I don't need a reply since I am very done with your store. Perhaps, my reviews will spare others the same frustration.

People do make the difference....

In this economy everyone looks for and appreciates the opportunity to save money. In this society its twice as nice,- or even more than twice as nice, when its combined with such pleasent, welcoming and sincere individules. With no exception- when you enter the location you will find not only value but the genuine feeling that your presence is welcomed and appreciated. Even if you dont buy something,,, theres something so nice about feeling appreciated!

Great Selection

As a visitor to the area, I found the store full of useful things you forgot to bring with you. Picked up a chair, pictures, end table and handicapped needs. Made about three trips to look at other needs. WONDERFUL SERVICE! Bought two things to bring back to OHIO. Much better choices than I expected.
