Twin Rivers Foods is headquartered in Fort Smith, Ark., and processes poultry, pork, and beef products. The company also operated a pickle plant that closed in 2002. The pickle plant opened with 150 workers in 1946 after residents of Atkins, Ark., raised $17,000 to entice Goldsmith Pickle of Chicago to invest $50,000 in the community. The plant was sold to Dean Foods in 1983. In 2002, Dean closed the plant two weeks before the city's annual "PickleFest" and relocated production to the company's other plants. At the time of its closing, the plant was the community's largest employer with nearly 200 workers. Twin Rivers Foods is one of the largest employers in the state of Arkansas.
