I had my roof damaged from a wind storm on June 30th 2012. I had called Bigs because they had done work for me once before. They were prompt and showed up on time for the estimate. I then gave them the approval to schedule my roof for a complete tear-off and new install. I got my roof scheduled for installation on a Monday. I called them on the previous Friday to verify the installation would be the coming Monday because I was taking time of work to be home for the removal and installation. No answer and no call back. Monday came and no word from Bigs. After I had left 2 messages and sent an email, I get a call after 1:00pm stating they would not be there until Tuesday. I explained to them that I took 3 days vacation and if they would have only communicated with me, I could have worked on Monday. Tuesday they did show up for the work on the roof. Tuesday-Thursday they did the work on the roof. I noticed Thursday afternoon, that my tan colored garage door had black streaks and smears all over it, my guess is that it came from the black tar residue from the old shingles that were removed. They denied this was from them and said it was like that when they started the job. I had to show them that it was fresh. They did clean it up but used a paint thinner which them removed the paint from the garage door and made it look 2-toned and very dull where they had used the thinner. I had asked who is now responsible for the painting of the garage door, they had told me that they only used water to remover tar streaks. Being in the chemical business I understand that water does not remove tar. Upon final inspection I had called them and told them that my insurance inspector would not approve final payment because a section of the new roof around and exhaust vent appeared to be not installed properly. James had assured me that it was installed correctly. I asked him what happens if it leaks, his words were I will be back and fix it.

Before the start of the roof, I had told James that I when completed I needed a certificate of completion and James said no problem they would give me one. After the roof was completed and the insurance inspector signed off on he replacement of the roof with the confirmation from James that the roof was done correctly, I asked for the certificate of completion so I could get the check from the insurance company, I was then told that they did not have such a certificate. After 2 weeks of working with my insurance company they did release the final check to pay Bigs.

Now the worst part, 6 months after the roof was installed, I come home from work after a day of rain and guess what, water on the floor from a leaky roof. This was a Friday night so I called Bigs and ended up leaving a message, they did have a 24 hour emergency phone number but unfortunately it was a non-working phone number. In business if you are going to have a 24 hour emergency contact number make sure it is a working number and not a disconnected number. James did come out the next day (Saturday) to repair the roof where I had told them that the insurance inspector stated it did not appear to be done correctly. I was told that wind must had damaged some of the shingles, my response was no, as you can see in the attic from the residue on the insulation that this had leaked for a while, ever since the new roof was put on. Nice try to cover yourself.

Lastly I had asked them what about the damage to my ceiling, no fault of Bigs, the roof did leak prior to me moving into the house so it already had some damage to the ceiling, but I asked what happens when the ceiling is fixed and if the roof does leak again. Well I am still waiting on an answer from them from numerous emails.

Credit to Bigs, I am overall satisfied with the quality of work other than the leak, but it was the communication on their part that made this a very bad experience

If you schedule work with them, just have plenty of patience.

Caused excessive damage to my ...

Caused excessive damage to my air conditioner unit and refused to compensate me for damages. They were very unprofessional and I would not recommend their service. Must not be bonded or insured.
