History King's Wood Montessori School was founded in 1968 by a group of parents. These founding members believed that the Montessori method of education, which is based on responsible freedom of the individual in the Montessori prepared environment, would give their children unique self-sufficiency and competence. The school has grown from 20 students in a rented store to 64 students in a building owned by King's Wood. Where a single teacher presided in 1968, we currently have two lead teachers, three teachers, and an administrator. Parents continue to be the mainstay of the school. Through active participation in many areas, including as members of the governing board, parental participation allows King's Wood to operate for the lowest possible tuition consistent with our educational goals. King's Wood Montessori School is a private, non-profit organization. The school is chartered as a Massachusetts corporation and all parents of children in the school are voting members of the corporation. King's Wood Montessori School is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care and staffed by teachers trained in the Montessori method. My daughter has been going to KWMS for over a year and she absolutely LOVES it! She learns so many things in such a short period of time - life skills, social skills, and of course the wonderful hands-on approach that only a Montessori school can provide. I also enjoy the great flexibility that the after school care offers! You can tell the school the same day that your child needs after school care - it's really fantastic (and unique), especially if you have other children. Furthermore, the teachers are very knowledgeable and caring. My daughter talks about her teachers all the time and definitely has a fondness towards them. I think this says a lot if a 4 year old loves her teachers. Overall, KWMS is a very nurturing school with fantastic staff and programs.
