We called this lab explaining an issue with the patient having cold agglutinins and the need to keep the specimen warm and to heat it at 37deg before running. We documented that call. They assured there was no problem, the CBC would be done properly. Their phlebotomist drew the blood and transported it to the lab. We got a report that was full of holes explaining they could not do portions of the CBC because of agglutinins present in the patient blood. Hello, that is why we called you! Patient had had the testing done by another lab a few months back, but he could actually drive there at the time. He is currently house-bound from hip surgery and I guess the insurance company hired this lab to do his testing. Bad choice.
