Central Texas Electric Co-op received its charter from the state of Texas on June 19, 1947. CTEC is a nonprofit organization that is owned and controlled by the people it serves. Originally, its service territory was included in the area served by Pedernales Electric Cooperative, its neighbor to the east in Johnson City, Texas. The cooperative provides electric service in more than 10 counties in Texas that include Gillespie, Llano, Mason, Kimble, San Saba, Burnet, Kendall, Kerr, Real, Kimble, Menard and McCulloch. CTEC buys its wholesale power mainly from the Lower Colorado River Authority and distributes it throughout the service territory on its own network of lines. It has nearly 33,000 meters on approximately 6,000 miles of energized line. Besides the headquarters office in Fredericksburg, Texas, the Central Texas Electric Co-op has branch offices located in Mason, Llano and Kingsland, Texas.
