This morning the HOA took the basketball hoops. They claimed it was about trash around the court. But who ever heard of a playground without a trash receptacle anyway? There are 3 large unused trash cans sitting inside the dilapidated pool enclosure that looks like it’s been closed since the 80’s. I guess they’re just for looks, just like playgrounds and common areas.

As you can see, it’s not about that. It never was. This trash on the was there before I moved in and well before the hoops went up, and it’s still there now. The TVs and furniture and shopping carts and obscene amount of trash along the sidewalks, yards, and common areas in the ditches? Still there. Old tires and junk in the pool enclosure? Still there. Giant car-eating potholes? Still there. Only thing missing is neighborhood kids who’ve been playing ball every weekend no matter the weather. I don’t know where they are...

This wasn’t about trash. Mark my words.

The ‘property manager’ said she didn’t care what I, a member of the community, thought about her taking the hoops from the children, but she cared deeply and passionately about the lady’s opinion who I saw taking the photos of the courts just last week. And there’s a clear difference between who she cared about and who she admittedly doesn’t. And it ain’t just age.

(Disclaimers: 1) The photos keep disappearing. 2) Later in the day some kids showed up to the park, both visually and audibly upset. Exclamations of ‘thats why there’s nothing to do around here. They take everything from us.’ They played catch with their basketball over the top of the playground equipment. It was short lived. Attendance was low. I guess y’all got what you wanted.)
