We contracted with Monaco to build a custom iron door with sidelights. This was to be an 8-10wk turnaround. 12 weeks later we received the door. It was defective and to some extent, poorly made. The major problem was that the mortice lock was improperly installed. Apparently, something prevented it to recess into the door such that it's finish plate was flush. The rep I dealt with told me that he knew of this problem before shipping it to me, but that since the door closed in the shop, they decided to ship it anyway. It protrudes approximately 1/8" beyond the edge of the door. Aside from looking very bad, this door will not close as a result. When they tested it in the shop, they did not attach its sidelights to it, and thus the jamb must have been bent. Their suggested solution was to bend the jamb and not fasten it tight to the straight edge of the sidelight. We rejected that solution. We emailed the president of the company as well as the sales dept, the rep we dealt with and his manager. Almost two weeks later, no reply! Aside from the above major problem, the strike plate is surface mounted to the jamb. I think that looks very cheesy. It also helps prevent the door from closing with the mortice box problem. Finally, there are some seams that were apparently caulked and then painted. When I touched them my finger nail went through the paper thin caulk skin to reveal a white hollow void (the doors are black). Wow.
