Camp Discovery is a therapeutic summer camp located at Gainesboro, Tenn. It serves Tennessee-area children and teens with disabilities, such as muscular dystrophy, cancer, diabetes, down syndrome, as well as various developmental disabilities. It has been operational since 1983 and is a part of the Tennessee Jaycees project. Spread over 186 acres, its campers have access to Cordell Hull Lake and a variety of activities. It has three cabins for housing more than 90 campers and 20 counselors, a dining hall, camp infirmary, amphitheater, campfire area and barn for indoor and evening activities. The camp provides full-time nurses to dispense medications and provide first aid. It also provides the opportunity for mentally challenged individuals to attend a one-week summer camp. The camp is available on rent for groups and organizations.
