The Alachua County Sheriff's Office, Detective Bureau s primary responsibilities include investigating crimes against persons, and financial, computer and property-type crimes. The sheriff s office undertakes various criminal cases and works with other state, local and federal agencies to ensure the safety of exchange of information between law enforcement officers and the public. The Alachua County Sheriff's Office supports the Explorer Program, which provides law enforcement training to students between the ages of 14 and 21. It operates a 920-bed jail that is spread over an area of more than 310,000 square feet and incarcerates adult male and female offenders for up to one year.
