On May 5, 2018, my fridge was full of food and had stopped cooling. I called Appliance Savers and Mike told me they charged $75 to look at the fridge and that would apply to the cost of any labor or parts. The technician arrived late, but within 5 hours of my call. He found the freezer coils to be coated in ice. He used a hair dryer to defrost the coils and saw that the temp sensor clip had popped up. He said that was the problem, pushed the clip down, and turned on the fridge power. He told me the charge was $453.25. I questioned the amount and he said it was for a “Tier 3 Repair Fee” plus tax. I told him that I had never experienced such a fee in prior appliance service and that I expected a bill for his 1 hour of labor and no parts. He did reduce my bill to $411.09. I asked about a warranty on the repair and for a receipt and he told me the work was guaranteed for 1 year and I would get my receipt by email. The receipt I received via Squareup only provides the amount I paid and no warranty information. But, the Bigger Problem is that my fridge is still not fixed – fridge is not cooling and coils are freezing.. No one answers the phone at Appliance Savers and I have left multiple messages every day since May 7, 2018 with no response. Obviously, I was “taken”.

I submitted my review to Better Business Bureau. They forwarded me Appliance Savers response and the below is a summary of their response. I disagree with Mike Blodgett’s assertion that he tried to call my number and got a recording that my phone was not in service. It has never been out of service. I also was not informed by the technician that I could just pay the $75 service fee, if I did not agree with the repair cost.
On May 15, I began calling Appliance Savers Repair at 5:30 am multiple times until someone answered the phone. Eventually, Mike answered the call. He claimed he had been calling me at a phone number 1 digit different from mine. That’s pretty fishy, since he was able to call me on the day of the repair, but never responded to the messages I left daily with my correct phone number Mike agreed to refund the “repair” cost minus the $75 service fee. He told me he would mail a check in the amount of $336 and that it could take 7 to 10 days to arrive. I told him I had also placed reviews on Google, Yelp, and Yellow Pages and that I would amend them as soon as I got his check. Shortly after we talked, he called me back, because he looked at the reviews (exact wording as my previous BBB submission) that I had posted on the other sites. He wanted to know what he could do to get me to amend them more quickly I said he could send someone to deliver me the check. It has been 25 days since I spoke with him and no refund has been received. So, I agree with my original assessment that I was “taken”.
