Nanoptics was incorporated in 1987 in Gainesville, Fla. The company has become one of the leaders in providing custom, made-to-order plastic optical fiber. The company is the original equipment manufacturer for advanced specialty applications that require low-weight, flexible plastic fiber optics. Nanoptics has patented technology for several POF processes and products. The company is the largest United States manufacturer of fluorescent plastic optical fiber for use in aiming devices for archery and other weapons systems. In addition, the company holds patents on a special fluorescent fiber, which permits the sight to operate in total darkness, as well as in bright ambient light. Nanoptics other custom fibers are used in specially made optical products, including optical sensors, digital communications and imaging elements, such as faceplates, endoscopes and boroscopes. The company also fabricates scintillating, wavelength shifting and fused fiber optic bundles and devices on a custom basis.
