Having a pup who was very sick and facing surgery for a pyromytra [apparently, unneeded] at a local Richmond VA vet....I made a desperation call to Dr. Dove to get a 2nd opinion. His nurse asked how long to make the trip. I said: Friday, 2:30pm already, heading into weekend rush hour DC traffic / 3 hours if I am lucky. A quick conference and Dr Dove and his staff said: BRING HER. It took just under 3 hours to get there....she went in at 5:30 pm and they all worked on her until 9:45 PM...on a Friday. Talk about commitment. My baby Elizabeth came home intact and the following year had puppies

Bad cat care DONT USE IF YOU HAVE EMERGENCY

We took our cat under stress to her as she couldnt breathe properly. They had us come in and blood tests and all showed nothing. So we took her home. Again she couldnt breathe properly and we took her in again. Again, they said oh we cant find anything wrong with her so nothing we can to... on that thurs barring she had this over the past weekend as well she the cat poor thing went thourgh 4 days of hell. I mean that the Doctor Frischer did not diagnose properly and when we took our cat in again she was lethargic and meowing so loudly. When again they could not find anything wrong they sent us on our way saying she seemed fine and was walking around. Yea right. when we picked her up that night she was meowing my husband said and I would bet that they never really looked at her properly. How could you leave a cat that cannot breathe right. WE had to take her to emergency vet in manassas and within 5 min doc said oh the test results said heart disease and her tongue was purple!!! what kind of doctor wouldnt see this in the first set of results and they never really looked at her and NO one called us that day to let us know what was going on..... ever nor any doctors assistants. I was appalled that our cat who is so sweet was left in a cage all day and just laid their meowing and too to make matters worse she couldnt meaow anymore she had lost her voice from calling out for help. Thank God for the animal hospital in manassas. they immediately put her in an oxygen tank. If this place is so good why didnt they do the same or tell us take her to emergency right now. And that the doctor didnt come in till 10 that morning so the poor thing was left from the time my husband dropped her off to when the doctor came in. What kind of emergency care is that ! At all costs dont use this place as they dont care. Please I am warning you... they dont know what they are doing

Excellent Veterinary Care

I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Dove for several years, now. My dogs (and one cat!) are pets, but I also show and breed my dogs. At first, I just went for his Repro services, but I quickly switched my dogs to him full-time.

I have had a great experience with this practice. Dr. Dove knows things about dogs that only years of hands-on experience can give you. He is excellent with both dogs and their humans. He definitely takes his time, and he has taught me a lot.

If I call the office, I can usually get an answer right away. For routine questions, Brian, Cissy, and other knowlegable staff members are there to help.

When I have needed a same-day appointment, Pam always works me in, somehow. I might have to wait a bit when I get there, but I will be seen the same day.

If you breed, there is no other game in town, IMHO. Dr. Dove will save pups when others might lose them. Very responsive, with 24/7 on-call services for breeders.

Because of the popularity of this practice, Dr. Dove can get very busy, especially if an emergency comes in. Over the past year, Dr. Dove has added Dr. Frisch to the practice to help with the workload. Good move. Dr. Frisch is very thorough, skilled and caring.

Not sure what was going on with "Bulldog and the tail" issue in the other review, but I can share my years-long experience, having had my dogs (and cat!) checked and treated at Companion for a variety of things. I think people tend to report the negative more often than the positive, so I took some time to write this review.

Hope this helps!
