Founded in 1966, Housing Opportunities Commission works towards the construction of new dwellings for low-income families who bear an excessive rent burden. It also supports the elimination and replacement of structurally unsound dwellings and provision of incentives to rehabilitate substandard dwellings. Housing Opportunities Commission also provides services for additional housing for newly formed families and retired persons. The housing commission organizes various housing programs, such as public housing, programs for the homeless, housing choice vouchers, housing for seniors and disabled and other housing options. It conducts a variety of programs for public housing residents, including employment initiative, family self-sufficiency, homeownership, community services, and maintenance and emergency services.
