They know how to repairs cars but they charge dealer rates by the hour instead of the job rate set by the Chilton Parts and Labor Estimating Guides. They charge the current dealer rate of $85 / hr. Certified mechanic shops charge $75 and independent shops like this are normally charging $65 an hour based on the time estimate in the Chilton guide.



The job they did for me rated 1 hour in Chilton's guide, but since they had the car in the bay for three hours they charged me for two even though they only worked on it for less than an hour. I understand that is how good mechanics make out-if they can finish a job in less time than the average quoted in Chilton's then great for them. They still get the hour charge. That should be at the shop rate here not the dealer rate of $85 an hour (and for 2 hours) for a one hour job at the shop rate of $65 an hour for the whole hour.
