My physician suggested that ...

My physician suggested that I get a comprehensive hearing evaluation. At 56 I thought that everything was fine but the doctor asked a few questions structured to find out if I might be missing things. Actually, I have been missing some things, during meetings at work and with my family. Noisy restaurants and business meetings have become challenging at times.

So when my physician asked a few questions about my hearing during my annual physical I shared these growing concerns. She suggested that I see an audiologist and offered some names. I asked her where she takes her own family, since I know that one of her children who attends school with my kids has a hearing problem. She said that she takes her family to Dr. Solomon at Hearing Care Resources and had a lot of confidence in Dr. Solomon.

Next, I started checking the internet reviews and I check with some friends at church. Every time Dr. Solomon’s name came up the comments were very favorable. So I scheduled a appointment. Booking went smoothly; the appointment scheduling person was friendly and made it easy to find a time that fit my schedule. I asked her if Dr. Solomon could get me hearing aids if that was what I needed and was told that they do offer hearing aids, but that only the audiologist and physician should determine if I really would benefit. The tests should be done first and then I could ask the audiologist if I needed aids and if so (my real question) anyone would know I was wearing them.

I was a little nervous the day of the appointment. I was afraid that the audiologist would confirm what I feared, that I was losing my hearing. I arrived for my meeting early and after checking in and filling out forms, waited for my appointment time. While I was waiting Dr. Solomon emerged with another patient, a well-dressed gentlemen about my dad’s age in his middle seventy’s. She told him to wait a minute and that she would be right back.

Perhaps I looked nervous but the gentlemen started up a conversation. I turns out that he had been one of Dr. Solomon’s patients he said, for about 15 years. He shared with me that he wouldn’t go to anyone else – I’d found the best – and that he was now wearing his forth pair of hearing aids. He had come in to have them cleaned and “tuned-up”. Dr. Solomon came back and the two of them excused themselves and went for a walk outside. A few minutes later Dr. Solomon came back in smiling ear to ear and greeted me (right on time for my appointment).

The hearing tests confirmed that I have a mild hearing loss in one ear and a moderately severe loss in the other. I asked about hearing aids and Dr. Solomon explained that I was a perfect candidate. We then spent 40 minutes with me getting an education about hearing, hearing aids, and how hearing works in different kinds of environments. Dr. Solomon had me try a demo pair of hearing aids that she had programed to meet my hearing deficiency. She has a room set up to actually recreate different sound environments and I could tell the difference right away. Actually I haven’t had as much fun since Disney. What a helpful tool that room is.

Then, after some adjustments, Dr. Solomon asked if I’d like to go for a walk. Out in the parking lot – I could hear a car coming around the corner. There were birds nearby. I heard a door close. I don’t think I would have heard any of those before. All I can say is - what a difference.

That was all two weeks ago. Nobody has spotted the little hearing aids deep in my ears. But I can’t believe how many sounds I must have been oblivious to before.

So, my review is very favorable. Hearing Care Resources and Dr. Solomon are friendly, caring and helped me hear better. I agree with the man I met who told me “Dr. Solomon is the best. I won’t go anywhere else”.

Dr. Solomon and Hearing Care R...

Dr. Solomon and Hearing Care Resources are highly recommended. My primary care physician says that he has referred patients to Dr. Solomon for years and he had good things to say about her and the results that Dr. Solomon has had with patients. I’ve had a severe hearing loss for years, but kept putting off dealing with it. I finally decided that it was time.

They have a friendly caring staff, nice office and a good location. Dr. Solomon took plenty of time to make certain that I understood my hearing loss and options. My daughter was with me and she learned a lot about what I’ve been dealing with. They use high tech in this office and the way Dr. Solomon uses it put me right at ease. I bought a set of hearing aids that go right in my ears – you can’t see them – but now I can hear you. I’m thrilled!
