American Metal Bearing Company (AMBCO) has been one of the preeminent suppliers of propeller shaft bearings to the navies of the world since the Second World War. AMBCO designs and builds many types of marine bearings including main thrust, journal, waterborne and rudder bearings. Other products build by AMBCO include partial arc, motor generator, hydroelectric generator, water lubricated and propulsion engines. It has its own proprietary self-contained oil lubricated and water lubricated bearings. The firm supplies bearings for the DDG, the LHD, the AOE, the Sealift, the Trident and the Sea Wolf programs. The company is also involved in many other U.S. Navy programs. AMBCO has a 40,000 square-foot facility that incorporates Computer Aided Design systems, Mathematical stress analysis modeling, 40-tool CNC machining center, Centrifugal babbitt casting, LUCAS boring mills, ten-ton lifting capacity, grit-blasting and sandblasting capabilities.
