Provided by YP.comI have been doing business with Joe, buying and selling coins while building my collection, since 1984. My kids used to really enjoy spending time there, looking at cards and odd coins. He has been a mainstay of the downtown business scene since way before I found his shop, which was then in a tiny space on Pleasant Street. Since then he has moved into a spacious and elegant (or once elegant) former bank building. Joe can be gruff and taciturn, bit I think he has mellowed over the years, --but basically he's a coin dealer not an entertainer. I have found that his grading is the most accurate of any dealer I have tried. --That is probably the most important attribute for a coin dealer. That, and a high measure of honesty and fairness. --And bravery, standing up to brazen daylight robbers a couple of years, and getting injured in the process.

Provided by YP.comI went to his with my daughter when she was about 10 because she had been collecting state quarters & he was so nice to her & explained how collecting quarters works. We bought a few things that didn't cost much but treated her great and I've never forgotten that. She's now in college & remembers him to this day. He didn't have to do that.
So, those of you slamming him are unfair and the man does have dignity and kindness. Get off his back.

Provided by YP.comIt doesn't take much intelligence to see that "Joe" is all about himself, is a lousy conversationalist, not much of a community member, and has yet to grow into a real human being as he apparently walked into the business his father started. Also a landlord who summarily kicks out tenants without mercy. Greed ruins everything.

Provided by YP.comI can't understand the negative reviews. I have dealt with him for years and I am sensitive to prices, Joe does buy at higher prices and sells at low prices. Pretty much my go to guy.
He has a personality as does everyone. If you take the time to get to know him you would be pleasantly surprised. Realize that in a busy retail environment as he is in and the low profit margin he works with, he deals with a lot of people and does a lot of transactions. Sometimes it does get frustrating, and all need to be patient.
Everyone has their specific interest, his are his interests, if you do not align with him fine go elsewhere to do business. It is not necessary to slam him because his interests are not yours.
I have sold to others such as APMEX, but dealing with him is MUCH easier.
He is above board, and I am looking to do my next transaction with him this weekend.
Only real nit, he is hard to get on the phone, but that is the way he does business and I am OK with that.
Catch him at the coin shows, he is pretty much captive at his booth. There are slow times where he is there and you can just talk as much as you want with him.

Provided by YP.comThis is mainly a modern coin and bullion dealer. He may be fair when you are selling jewelry or precious metals and occasionally coins. When buying he occasionally has some good deals. Since he has the only game in town and surrounding towns it would be hard to know whether he is competitive. Frankly I would sell to the national dealers like Stacks, HA, Apmex, etc. rather than be at the mercy of these one person operations. And ditto on the uncertified coins, you will lose money bigtime!!! The guy plays by his own rules.
09/12/2015
Provided by YP.comThis dealer is high in prices especially when he sells uncertified coins and is exceptionally critical when buying. The only coins or currency I would want to buy from him are things near the actual metal melt price as he doesn't know how to grade coins or currency properly. Plus he has a nasty regard for all the authorities and does not want to be accountable for his transactions. Sure, there are plenty of people who have benefited with doing transactions but far more who have been ripped off without having any recourse. Avoid this person who rips people off.

Provided by YP.comI have known Joe for and done business with him for 30 years always pays top price for proof sets and mint sets and other coins as well. I would recommend stopping in to meet him and bring what you have to sell or a list of coins you need.

Provided by YP.comI have known the owner for 40 years he is fair and honest, this would be and excellent place to bring your coins for and appraisal. I would not believe the negative review that is posted and think it should be removed.
