Southwest Middle School offers a variety of educational and enrichment programs for students in grades six through eight. It teaches various subjects, including English, math, science and technology, social studies, business technology, language arts, French, Spanish, life skills, music, fine arts and physical education. The school organizes various extracurricular activities, including dance, band, chorus, drama and Battle of the Books. It has athletic teams for baseball, football, soccer, basketball, softball, cheerleading, wrestling, golf and volleyball. The school offers guidance, counseling and various special education programs for students with special needs. Located in Gastonia, N.C., Southwest Middle School operates under the guidelines set by the Gaston County School District and enrolls more than 900 students.
