Marys Tavern was opened in 1934 after Mary lost her husband. She and her children opened the Tavern in what used to be a grocery store her family had owned. Mary became one of the biggest Bootleggers running Booze up north! The walls still display the original Brick and the old duct work can still be seen from the wood stove located in the basement that was used to heat the building. Some say Mary still hangs out from time to time, and her son Bob who passed in 2014 who ran the business solo from 1946 until 2010. Kat Steinbrecher who worked as a bartender for Bob since 2007, purchased the business in 2010 and still operates it today. Kat is a 35 year old, Gaylord native and has restored much of the history while updating the surroundings, making Marys Tavern the Local HOT SPOT and place to be! .
