Established in 1789, the Geneva Police Department is a state-accredited law enforcement agency that works to maintain law and order and protect residents lives and their property. It is comprised of more than 40 full- and part-time sworn officers and civilians. The department operates crime prevention, drug enforcement, and bicycle and foot patrol units. The Geneva Police Department supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, which focuses on the prevention of illegal usage of drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. It also employs an animal control officer who provides shelter to lost and at-large animals and deals with animal nuisance complaints. The department is recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Geneva Police Department is located in Geneva, N.Y.
