We offer job coaching and counseling, resume development, internet job searches, interviewing techniques and other resources to help individuals overcome their barriers to gaining and retaining employment. St. Joseph's Family Center secures funding from government sources to assist families in a situation of crisis, caused by circumstances beyond their control (i.e. loss of employment). We help subsidize the cost of entering new housing, help them maintain their current housing and/or utility service with timely financial assistance. St. Joseph's Family Center is the area liaison to homeless services. While we do not own housing or operate a shelter, we can provide you with links to area services, both in Gilroy and throughout the County. We work with the County of Santa Clara and Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) on the UPLIFT Transit Pass Program. This program provides quarterly transit passes. Funding to support these services will come from the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP), which was created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (2009) and allocated to the County of Santa Clara and State of California by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The purpose of this program is to help those individuals and families who would be homeless but for this assistance and who can be reasonably expected to maintain stable housing once the assistance ends. St. Joseph's offers a twice-weekly hot meals program at Wheeler Manor, a senior low-income housing development owned by South County Housing. Together, we provide nutritional balanced meals for the seniors living at Wheeler Manor and those in the surrounding community. The meals are coordinated by our staff, prepared on site and supported with the assistance of community volunteers. The meals are served on Monday and Wednesday evenings @ 5pm. Gilroy Street Team The Gilroy Street Team (GST) employs homeless and formerly homeless individuals to assist with beautification projects around the City of Gilroy. Participation is rewarded with vouchers for food, clothing, transportation and other necessities. The participants also receive training and job coaching that can help them enter the workforce. Perhaps the greatest gift is the restoration of the team member's dignity and sense of pride in being able to give back to the community.
