I called around 12pm Today(7/14/11) and I asked about their Happy Hour Specials. I was told that Sakana Sushi has Happy Hour all day during weekdays. So I started to get ready with my mom and headed to the Sakana. When we arrived I was told by this girl that sorry we are already closed for lunch at 2pm. I looked at my clock and it was 2:02pm. There was at least 5 different sets of people eating throughout the restaurant and I was confused why they didn't let us in. I asked the girl if its ok if we stay since its only 2:02 and I have called before and nobody told me about the 2pm closing time. She basically told us to leave the restaurant. Even if Sakana makes the best sushi in the world, I WILL NEVER GO BACK NOR TELL ME FRIENDS TO GO THERE!!!

I have been going to Sakana's ...

I have been going to Sakana's for a few years now. At least once a week I just read the other review and can not believe that a person would go to a place for years and then write something so mean. The food is great! The people are friendly and the service is outstanding. If the manager did not give you a free meal maybe they did not want you to come back. Small restaurants have that right.

Terrible Sushi & Customer Service

I have to admit that when my husband and I started eating at this restaurant we LOVED it. We visited at least twice a month for about 2 years. I even took business clients to lunch here on several occasions. The food and service was always good. Then about a month ago we recieved the most disgusting plate of sushi I have ever tasted and we have encountered alot of bad sushi in Phoenix. The seaweed was so chewy we had to pull it out of our mouths...it felt like it was going to go down in one long, slimy string and gag us. We tried and tried to eat it but after 3 bites...we decided it was just too wrong to choke $50.00 worth of sushi down and not say anything. The waitress asked us if we were okay and we explained why we had not eaten our meal. She asked if we wanted to take it home and we both agreed neither of us wanted to taste it again and asked for the manager. The waitress took our food away before she sent the manager over. The first thing the manager said was that she had tasted the seaweed and found nothing wrong with it! She also said we were the only ones to have complained that day and that there was nothing she could do for us. She gave us our bill and obviously was not going to offer any consolation. I rarely complain about my food at any restaurant but this sushi was intolerable. I've never heard of a manager just telling you that she disagreed with you and handing you the bill. She didn't even offer to make us another dish. I wonder if it would be the same if they served you stinky sashimi or moldy oranges? We both left there so sad that we would no longer be able to visit one of our favorite restaurants...we can't afford to gamble on getting a bad meal, paying $50 for it, and still going home hungry. Sad, sad, sad that what was probably $20.00 worth of food to them was not worth saving our frequent business. I have been to other Sakana restuarants in the valley and may go to them again but will NEVER visit this location again.
