Dawson County was providing bus transportation for the elderly and the developmentally disabled prior to June 1993. This transportation service was operated by the County Commissioners and the County on Aging. After July 1, 1993, Urban Transportation District was established by the voters to operate the transportation service and program. The Board of Trustees made the program available to the general public. Dawson County Transit has provided rides exceeding 14, 000 for the year ending in 1997, and 13, 364 rides in 2005.
