Specialties: Pain, chronic illness, sides effects of cancer treatments from an East/West perspective. Kathleen can help you navigate the complex world of Western medicine while treating you with Eastern Medicine. Who is she? Kathleen Menten is a board certified nurse, acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist who has been practicing acupuncture since 1986 and nursing since 1969. She helped to create the Integrative Medicine Program at the cancer center at Johns Hopkins Hospital where she did acupuncture and was part of the pain team. Kathleen's passion is helping people to find meaning in their lives and to re-write their story when their current reality does not appeal to them. She is a die-hard eclectic, drawing from many traditions to help people. Her acupuncture style reflects this. It is a combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Five Element, and Auricular Acupuncture. How can she help you? Acupuncture This combination of techniques allows for symptom management while the underlying balance is also being addressed. It treats: pain, chronic illness, joint and muscle pains, headaches & migraines, female problems, emotional problems, digestive & respiratory problems, etc. Kathleen uses only disposable needles. She may also choose to use electro-acupuncture. Herbs Herbs constitute an important part of Kathleen's individualized treatment plan. The Chinese herbal system is the safest, most comprehensive and most respected herbal system in the world. Herbs work to relieve symptoms rather than suppress them. When properly used through the Chinese diagnostic system (prescribed by a practitioner) herbs are much safer than their Western counterparts. Plants contain natural buffers, so they are less likely to produce allergic responses than Western drugs. When used in conjunction with acupuncture they strengthen the results. Counseling Mind-body approaches are used by Kathleen in her acupuncture practice to help with pain and stress control. Kathleen is a board certified nurse counselor. In addition, acupuncture helps people with anxiety, depression, and stress reduction. Inside each person lies a wealth of knowledge, capabilities and power rarely transmitted to the conscious mind. Acupuncture provides a catalyst for developing these creative possibilities latent in each of us. Call today! You'll feel better

Hep C Treatment

I have Hepatitis C and am not interested in being treated with the current drugs that are available today. I am managing it well while in Kathleen's care. She uses acupuncture and Chinese herbs to keep my liver healthy. I am very grateful to have her as a acupuncturist.
