Provided by YPmobileOn July 9th we took our lab mix there because he had been walking down our back steps and let out a cry and was walking funny for a few days. Now we aren't the perfect pet owners we have a 1 year old and 5 year old so our rex hadn't been to the vet in a few years (he hated the vet) and was not up to date on vaccines. And we hadn't given him flea and tick treatment. Anyway everyone was friendly and they even have a little coffee station. We were nervous as we thought he tore his cruciate ligament. Rex was extremely nervous and we thought it would be a good idea to have him muzzled as he bit our previous vet. He is very friendly but hates the vet. Anyway after looking him over the woman vet (can't remember her name) said it was a sprain and gave us medicine and a follow up appointment. She also insisted he get a flea treatment which we agreed 100%. He ended up being fine a few days later. Fast track to 10 weeks later and on a Thursday i watched him get into "dirty" water, i yelled at him to stop but he was so Thirsty he couldn't stop. We noticed he had junk coming out of his eyes but seemed clear. The next morning I woke up to pee all over my kitchen (very unusual he was potty trained for 6 years). That night he seemed feverish and very off, depressing looking and listless. The gunk had turned green. At 2 am he peed on the floor then again at 9. He was so thirsty. Saturday he got worst. He had a lot of symptoms to leptosoprosis. And he had drank "bad water". Saturday night he couldn't walk we had to carry him outside. He could hardly hold his head up. We called sunday and our Dr.Will said we could bring him in then or wait until the morning. I thought we could wait as he made it through the weekend. Sunday night he walked upstairs and slept with us and didn't have an accident all night. He had a hard time walking down the stairs. 7:30am were at the vet. Down 9lbs in 10 weeks. Dr will thoroughly examined him. He had a temp of 105, his blood vessels in his eyes ruptured and showed bleeding behind his retna. Dr. Will strongly thought he had Lyme disease and kidney failure possibly liver failure as well. He offered to run the tests but felt it would all have the same result. We had to make the gut wrenching decision to let him go. They gave us as much time as we wanted to be with him I think we did an hour or so And I even got to hold our furrbaby until he was gone. Hardest thing we've ever done but he isn't suffering anymore. Dr. Will was great and very sympathetic. He did think it was very possible that in July his lamness and lack of appetite was from lyme disease. I do wish the woman we saw in July would have picked up on the fact he had lamness and wouldn't eat. Maybe he would still be here. With that being said we take full responsibility for this as we did not regularly treat him for fleas and ticks. We just feel that in prime tick season it should have been a red flag to her that he wasn't treated and had the first 2 symptoms of Lyme disease. I wish we would have known those were the symptoms. Our 7 year old boy went to heave on 9/29/14. 3 days later we recieved a card with everyones name on it and a beautiful poem on another sheet of paper with his paw print on the bottom. If we ever get another animal we would take him to see Dr. Will as he knew right away what was wrong, the other vet probably not. Like I said we hold ourselves responsible but feel she should have picked up on it.
