In 2003, the St. Stephen's Soup Kitchen was renamed the Community Soup Kichen of Goldsboro moved from St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at 200 North James Street, where it had been located for 24 years, to its present location at 112 West Oak Street. Since 1980 the Soup Kitchen was a ministry of St. Stephen's and was supported by volunteers from many other churches throughout the county, including men and women from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Corporate and local businesses donated food and money in order to sustain the operation through the years to feed the hungry. The new site at Temple Oheb Sholom, the second oldest Jewish temple in the state, was made possible by the generous efforts of the Jewish community and the Episcopal Church. Extensive renovations were completed and a Board of Directors was formed to oversee the new Community Soup Kitchen's operations.
