I knew from a young age that I wanted to go into the health care field. I always had a desire to help people. After experiencing several sicknesses and deaths in my family during my younger years, I chose to go to nursing school. After completing nursing school, I didn’t feel entirely fulfilled yet, so I chose to go back to school and further my education to become a nurse practitioner. Most of all, I feel that it is important that I take the time to listen to my patients and their families as well as their concerns regarding their health or the health of their loved ones. This builds rapport with the patient and their family, as well as improves their care. Building trusting, professional relationships with my patients is important to me. Furthermore, we must always remember that care is often individualized and there are many factors that we must take into consideration when treating patients. We must not focus solely on the medical condition and lose sight of the financial, socioeconomic and emotional factors that may be involved in the patient’s medical condition or diagnosis as well. Holistic care is important to me. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my five-year-old daughter. She and I both love to read. My family and I enjoy traveling and camping in our RVs. We spend many weekends during the summer at the beach but also enjoy the mountains. You can often find us fishing or riding on our boat. We are annual passholders to Disney World and travel there several times per year as well.
