Health Physics Instruments merged with Far West Technology in 1987 and was founded in 1972. Far West Technology is a technology company that designs, manufactures and distributes radiation-measuring devices for the nuclear, physics, medical and materials fields. FWT is involved with three different product lines dealing with three different markets: chemical dosimetry for radiation processing, detectors for precision measurements and instruments for radiation safety. Each of the three product lines is represented by specialists in chemistry, mechanics and electronics. The company s products measure penetrating radiation: gamma, beta, alpha, neutron and X-ray. FWT and HPI are integrated and occupy the same building in Goleta, Calif., where the company is privately owned and employs nearly 30 people.
