Minnkota Power Cooperative is a regional generation and transmission cooperative that serves 11 member-owner distribution cooperatives. Minnkota's service area of nearly 34,500 square miles is located in eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. Minnkota is a partner of the Touchstone Energy Group. It serves 12 municipal utilities and a municipal power agency. Its associated systems serve more than 112,000 customers in North Dakota and Minnesota. With headquarters in Grand Forks, N.D., Minnkota Power owns and operates the Milton R. Young Station located near Center, N.D. It consists of two units that are supplied with lignite coal from the adjacent mines of BNI Coal.
