Southern Power District is a publicly owned electric distribution system that provides electricity and related services to customers in south central Nebraska. Southern operates more than 6,800 miles of distribution lines that are served by 70 substations located throughout the district's 4,028-square-mile service area. It purchases all of its power from Nebraska Public Power District of Columbus, Neb. The company s chartered service area extends through the rural areas of seven counties, which include Adams, Franklin, Hall, Hamilton, Kearney, Merrick and Phelps and a small portion of Clay County in Nebraska. Southern Power District is located in Grand Island, Neb.
