Provided by YP.comWe had two different problems with this company and I want everyone to be aware of these scam artist.
About a year ago they came and gave me an estimate for replacing my water heater in the basement and when the job was completed I noticed that they charged me $80 extra for bringing the unit down to the basement even though they have already came and they seen and knew that the new unit needed to go downstairs.
Last week I made the big mistake of calling them to clean the drain for the kitchen sink and the person that answered and took my service call informed me that it will be $50 trip charge plus time spent. When they came and cleaned my sink drain they service man refuse to listen to my wife when she told him that the drain needed to be cleaned from the laundry room. Either way, he spent less than an hour at my house including all of the time it took him to bring his tools inside and he gave my wife an invoice for $185 claiming that it is a flat rate for drain cleaning. I called and talk to Jeff at Godwin and claimed that the person took my service call was new and made a mistake when he told me that they charge $50 + time spent.
Two days later the drain start backing up again and we called them but Jeff in service said that I will need to pay for them to come back and clean it again. He said that the service man should have worked for two hours on his first trip to clean it better. I just don't understand why they did not do it right the first time.
**Do yourself a favor and avoid this company because they lie and don't stand behind their word.**

Provided by YP.comWe called Godwin initially to come take a look at our air conditioning unit as it seemed to not have any power to the unit. The unit was brand new as of May 2014 and we had just moved in to the home a week prior. Two guys came out (Al and an apprentice). My wife had a feeling of distrust shortly after meeting the gentleman but figured getting the estimate for the repairs was still worth a shot. When he informed her it would be upwards of $350.00 she said she needed to check with me as I worked out of town because that price seemed high. He then proceeded to give her an invoice for $120.00 just for taking a look at the unit and said that would be knocked off the charge upon completion of the work. She mentioned she just needed an estimate and he said it didn't matter. She reluctantly felt pressured to get the work done as it was still a heavy price tag with nothing done. They completed what they claimed was wrong with the unit which was leaking freon and charged us 364.90. My wife hardly uses the air and I work out of town. A few weeks later when I went to use the air again it would again not receive any power. I went out and inspected the unit by taking a look at the breaker, it seemed okay. We called Godwin with the same fella coming out for a "follow up". He took a look at the unit and gave my wife an invoice for $58.50 which was due today and $600.00 to fix the brand new unit saying the compressor was locked and needed to be replaced. Why I was paying another $58.50 for him to follow up I had no idea. He claimed because it was something different which made no sense to us. I came home shortly after Al left and couldn't believe the estimate with this being a new unit. I went out again to inspect the unit and seen that the breaker was turned upside down and reinserted so the power would not work. I know it was not like this as I had just looked at it the night before. He was sabotaging my unit trying to take advantage of my wife and I when it was just a simple switch in the basement that he flipped on from the breaker inside that somehow got flipped. I am positive he knew what he was doing when he inserted the breaker wrong. Now we are questioning whether any of the work needed to be done at all on the unit and we spent $364.90 with this company. We will never use this company again and would like to prevent other residents of Grand Rapids from having this same issue with Godwin. I did call Godwin and spoke with a manager only for him to explain and explain things to me about what was wrong according to Al. I informed him that I felt sabotaged and that I would not pay the $58.50 or ever use their company again. I would give no stars if that was an option.

Provided by YP.comWe had to have the backflush tested on our sprinkler system. We called a local plumber that charged us $39.95 and then told us we failed and it would cost over $200 to fix. We were a skeptical so we called Godwin out to check it. They came out, checked it and told us we failed and then found it was just a rubber washer that was a little warped. Total cost including the initial check: $65. Godwin is upfront and honest in their dealings. I am SO glad we called them instead of believing the other company who was obviously just looking to rip us off. I would definitely recommend them.

Provided by YP.comI wish I could write a positive review for Godwin Plumbing. My 84 year old dad purchased over $400 in merchandise to prepare his home for my mom coming home under hospice. She passed away before he had a chance to put some of the items in. With all he had on his mind, he couldn't find his receipt but wanted to return $55 in merchandise. They would not refund him in $$, but instead insisted that he have in-store credit which he had no use for. Even after hearing the circumstances, Doug gave my dad about 10 seconds of insensitivity. (Doug called it "matter of fact"). I would NEVER do business with a company with no heart and would never recommend them to anyone. I wish the owner would contact me.
I HAVE SPOKEN WITH ONE OF OWNERS (TIM). MY EXPERIENCE WITH TIM IS COMPLETELY OPPOSITE OF MY DAD'S EXPERIENCE WITH DOUG. THIS TRULY IS A COMPANY WITH HEART AND TIM HAS GONE ABOVE AND BEYOND TO TREAT MY DAD WITH THE DIGNITY AND TENDERNESS HE DESERVES. THANK YOU TIM FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CARE.

We had been using another company to repair our aging (19 yrs) furnace and we got sketchy service from them and decided to shop around at a couple of different companies. We needed another repair, or if the repair was significant then we were going to replace the furnace. Between the two companies we were looking at, Godwin had the better customer service. They sent out a tech to diagnose what was going on, and they didn't charge us for this (Russ). They deducted the cost of the initial visit from the price of replacing the furnace (at the time we were not sure which way we were going - so in the end they saved us $100 just for this aspect of it). Russ was kind, professional, knowledgeable, and punctual. He was everything I could have wanted in a service professional.
We got the estimate for the furnace replacement and it was a bit over the other estimate we had got. I let Russ know that we really wanted to go with Godwin, and they worked with us on the price to match the other company we had checked out.
This morning Steve was sent over to replace the furnace. Also - he was just as efficient, professional, kind, and happy as Russ was! I am so impressed with Godwin's customer service! Steve was on time and worked quickly to get our heat going once again. They cleaned up their mess and we have a great new furnace! Godwin just got a new customer for life! Thanks Godwin and thanks to Russ and Steve for such a great job!
