The Polk County Conservation Board was created by the voters of Polk County in 1956 to acquire, develop and maintain areas devoted to conservation and public recreation. The 16 park and wildlife areas managed by the PCCB are visited by more than 1.4 million people each year. These public recreation areas cover more than 10,000 acres in the state's most populous county. The board s environmental education staff presents conservation programs to more than 36,000 school children annually and offers more than 100 outdoor recreational programs to the public. The board is governed by five members appointed by the Polk County Board of Supervisors.
