I have not been happy with this pediatrician's office. I went there based on several friends' recommendations, but will no longer be returning. Our latest visit (at a 6-month well check), was the tipping point. Up to that point I didn't think it was a good fit, but I couldn't quite say why. At this appointment I asked for the 3rd time to nurse during vaccines. The first time they just said no. The second time they said I could stand to the side of the table and lean over to nurse because it was too dangerous for me to nurse, risking poking me or themselves. This time I spoke with the head nurse. She claimed that babies could choke while nursing while being vaccinated. I asked if this was based on any form of research, and she said it was her personal experience. I inquired if she had seen it happen, and she said no, that she's never allowed nursing (meaning she actually has no experience with it since she's never even seen it done, nor has she read research on the matter). When I asked her to look into the research so we could talk about it the next time (this is my first child, so I will be vaccinating several more over the coming years, God willing), she interrupted me saying she wasn't going to argue, and closed the door as I was still talking with her. In my 31 years, I have never been treated so rudely. When I brought this up with my doctor, she just said that Missy is a very good nurse, without even an apology. I can count on one hand the times I've been angry (it's just not an emotion I feel very often), and this is definitely the one that I'm the most infuriated with! This was also after waiting 50 minutes for the doctor to come into the exam room (with a baby who was ready for a nap). And then of course you have to wait another 20 minutes for vaccines after the doctor did her examination. I was there for 1 hour and 45 minutes for a well-check.
