Around January bought a lot of curtains for the entire house to spruce it up with the intention of returning the ones that didn't go well with the decor. We decided not to invest in our home but sell instead. Planned on returning all curtains.

In February while away a water pipe busted and flooded the first floor of our home. It was devastating and heartbreaking trying to clean up and repair the damages. I'm a single mother on a low income budget due to disability. I've been working all these months on repairing damages when in June I came across the curtains still in original packages unopened I was thrilled because I was so in need of the $250 I paid for the curtains. Although the curtains, new lamp still in box and a few other items were in the closet in a room that wasn't damaged by the water, the box I kept receipts got soaked and the cheap ink on the receipts vanished.

Without the receipts I expected that Walmart would only refund my money via gift card. To this day I feel the humility when entering this store and get heart palpitations as I recall how I explained (to customer service and store managers) the 5-6 months delay in returning the items due to directing my focus on cleaning up and repairs to our flooded home and how they denied my pleads for refund because I have no receipts and barcodes are no longer in the computer. I was shocked and pleaded they reconsider, explaining my income is very limited, I have children, I can't afford to lose that much money, they were purchased in good faith that I could returned anything I didn't use and explained I have receipts that are blank pieces of moldy paper due to getting wet.

I told them I could show them identical items on their shelves that very day. It didn't matter to them, items barcodes have changed in the computer since purchase. Offered to bring in proof of our tragedy they said it wasn't that they didn't believe me, said they were sorry we have been going through such a difficult time and refused any reimbursement for all the curtains and crystal floor lamp stating it was too large of a refund without proof of purchase.

It sickens me as Walmart advertises on their site --“It’s our mission to create opportunities so people can live better. We consider it our responsibility to make a positive impact in the communities we serve. Whether it’s through the grants we provide to the thousands of organizations that share our mission or through the inspiring volunteer efforts of Walmart associates, we are passionate about helping people live better. One community at a time.

“..help our communities around the world overcome natural disasters.”

And yet it is too much to ask, impossible and beyond their capability to assist a local single mother by honoring the request for Walmart to consider accepting items new unopened in original packaging that were purchased at this Great Bend location for refund without the receipt under the circumstances due to the disaster the family recently experienced. I wasn't asking for a handout, maybe just a little empathy.

My lack of support for our local Walmart will have little effect on their finances but their lack of support for us has affected our quality of life and created greater hardship.

I can purchase my groceries at Dillon’s; Walmart's always matching their prices. I just wish there was another store in the area to compete with local Walmart where I can afford to purchase other merchandise needed for my family.

Walmart of Great Bend would have to be the worst store in the country I will never go back to that store they don't have any competition so there prices are way to high
