Sean T. Hwang, MD joined the Northwell Health System in 2008 and is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra Northwell. He is the Director of the Continuous EEG Monitoring Program at North Shore University Hospital and LIJ Medical Center, and the Program Director of the ACGME approved adult Epilepsy Fellowship Program.Dr. Hwang earned his MD from Tufts University and completed his residency in neurology at Stanford University Medical Center before completing a two-year fellowship in EEG and Epilepsy at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Hwang specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of seizures, the interpretation of neurophysiologic studies, operative planning for epilepsy surgery, and in performing functional cortical mapping. Dr. Hwang s research interests also involve studying the interaction between epilepsy and behavior. Dr. Hwang has been a primary investigator and co-investigator in several clinical studies involving the development of new epilepsy medications, evaluating new technologies for epilepsy, and evaluating outcomes in children born to women with epilepsy.Dr. Hwang is responsible for the training of Epilepsy fellows and the formulation of their curriculum. His duties at North Shore Hospital also include the supervision and instruction of general neurology residents, as well as participating in the education of medical students. He has received departmental teaching honors on two occasions.Dr. Hwang is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, the American Epilepsy Society, and the Long Island Epilepsy Foundation Professional Advisory Board. He received the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island Professional Leadership Award in 2017 for his commitment and dedication to his colleagues and patients. Dr. Hwang has triple board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology, Epilepsy, and Clinical Neurophysiology.

Provided by Doctor.comi've seen a lot of different docs, and i feel like i've heard the same thing from everyone...but dr hwang is excellent and gave me hope- which i think counts for alot. he knows alot about seizures and meds, and has been really helpful so far. we've also talked about surgery about which i really didn't know much about before, but this has shed a whole new light on things for me
