Look Elsewhere

I love Marriott properties. . .usually. When reservations were needed for out-of-town guests, I immediately selected the Downtown Marriott because of its proximity to certain facilities. I should have done more research by visiting the hotel personally. If I had, I would have seen that the front doors, windows, and outside entreway needed cleaning and the stains on the back of chairs in the lobby. The bathroom floor "feel" clean; I had to spray Lysol on all room surfaces for my mom's comfort. We found leftover water in the ice bucket and the tv did not work properly. The vagrant at the front of the building repeatedly asked for money each time he saw us.

My mom refused to move to another hotel. With temps in the upper 90s and with her heart condition, the strain would have been too much. However, I felt bad that I picked a questionable room (without a fridge!) for her two-night stay.

So, while the service was great (the staff corrected the reported problems quickly; the desk staff was professional and knowledgeable), I can not recommend the hotel. For a hotel to be downtown and representing Greensboro, it should be spic and span. Sigh.
