The Adult Center for Enrichment (ACE) opened on June 4, 1984, as a division of Corporation of Guardianship, Inc (COG). In December 1987, to clarify its public image and more adequately support and promote its program; the Adult Center for Enrichment was separated from COG and formed its own private non-profit corporation. ACE began operations in the former Cerebral Palsy and Orthopedic School on Gatewood Avenue in a lease arrangement with the Cerebral Palsy Association and Gateway Education Center. In late 1987, ACE moved to a temporary location for its program at St. Paul Presbyterian Church on South Chapman Street. In August of 1989, the Adult Center for Enrichment moved to one of its present locations, ACE at Bardolph. This adult day care/day health center is located in the Dorothy Bardolph Human Services Building, downtown Greensboro. In October 1991, in a cooperative venture with Evergreens, Inc, the Adult Center opened a satellite adult day care/day health care center at the Evergreens location on West Wendover Avenue in Greensboro. In May of 1994 the (CARE) ACE at First Baptist program began operation as a respite model on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10: 00 am - 2: 00 pm. Wednesdays were added in August of 2007. The ACE adult day care/day health center Evergreens, Inc on Wendover closed in 1996 to accommodate Evergreens own program space needs. ACE at Muir's Chapel United Methodist Church (GRACE), a second group respite site, was opened in 1997. It is available on Mondays and Thursdays from 10: 00 am - 2: 00 pm. In September of 2009 ACE at Muir's Chapel UMC moved into its current location, which is the refurbished church parsonage. The administrative offices of the Adult Center moved from ACE at Bardolph Center in March 1997 to the Self-Help Building, 122 N. Elm St., Greensboro, so that the Bardolph space could be expanded to its current capacity of 29 adults.
