So yesterday Vern and Mary and I went to the location in Greenwood Village. The place was empty, it was only eleven but by the time we were finished it was twelve. Right, we were there for an hour at a Mexican place where we all ordered the lunch menu items, disappointing.

With authentic Mexican music, wait staff and décor you would expect perfection, not really. First I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food. Yeah, I like a burrito and some rice but I'd rather eat an American style lunch. Huh? Variety is the key to life. Wait, that's not entirely true, what about your spouse? Yeah, I thought so.

Immediately a bald guy showed up with chips and Salsa. Vern dug in as if it was his own so I asked for more salsa. It was mild with no kick what-so-ever. The colorful basket of chips was nice and frankly since spicy stuff bugs me I liked the tomatoes and onions in the salsa.

Vern and I ordered iced tea while Mary ordered a club soda with lime. My drink came from the soft drink area while Mary's came from the bar. After a half hour and a second glass of tea our food was delivered. I ordered a number four off the lunch menu which had a Chili Relleno (spelling according to Seri) and some shredded chicken in a corn tortilla, beans and rice with lettuce and tiny tomato pieces. Their green chili bathed the Relleno. Without having a choice in therms for the green chili mine was very mild and well, it lacked flavor.

Midway through the meal and almost to the end of my plate Mary gasped. She had just noticed that her Coke glass, you know the kind, with club soda in it was partially coated with salt. It was clear this glass had been used by someone for a Margarita and NOT washed. Mary immediately halted her meal and we summoned a man from about the bar. He came over and we shoed him the problem. He offered her a replacement and she said, "never mind." He vanished then returned with a glass of plain water with a lemon. She didn't touch it, she wanted out.

Back in the day - some time - what 150 years ago - if you were tough you asked for whiskey in a dirty glass. We had thought that tradition had died with Custer or Sitting Bull but apparently it lives on at El Tapatio in Greenwood Village.

That said we expected some apologies and compensation from management and got not a word. In fact we got the cold shoulder on the way out the door. Strange how service people react to that kind of event. El Tapatio failed as far as we were concerned.
