eLearning is defined, for the purposes of accreditation review, as a formal educational process in which the majority of the instruction occurs when student and instructor are not in the same place. eLearning affords learners the opportunity to take a course anytime and anywhere. Instruction may be synchronous or asynchronous. Distance education may employ correspondence study, audio, video, or computer technologies.Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools ( 1866 Southern Lane, GA 30033 Decatur: Telephone 404-679-4501 ) to award associate degrees.Online courses are courses that are offered through the Mississippi Virtual Community College ( MSVCC ) consortium. The consortium is comprised of 15 community colleges throughout Mississippi. These courses are offered entirely online, usually with no campus component, using the Blackboard and Desire2Learn learning platforms. All courses require at least one proctored exam that will require the learner to go to the campus or to a college approved location that can provide a proctor to take an exam. Learners will be required to show a picture ID prior to testing.Hybrid courses are a blending of the traditional face-to-face courses with an online component. In this format, you will complete a portion of the course online using the Desire2Learn platform and then only meet on campus as outlined in the college Tabloid. Hybrid courses must meet a minimum of 25% of the course face-to-face.
