Village of Hammond Indiana makes it virtually impossible for a contractor to do any kind of work in their town. Every village has their own set of rules and regulations, but the village of Hammond Indiana has set strict regulations and outrageous fees to do work in their town.

Here are good examples of what a contractor has to do in order to work in Hammond Indiana that no other village in the greater chicagoland area ask for:

-You have to take a test! Yes, they make you take a test at 10am for a cost of $100, and then have a meeting with the "Board of Representatives" at 6pm that same day.
-Out of state corporations must submit a Certificate of Authority for foreign businesses out of Indiana? Never have I heard of this, but they want to charge $125 for this and find a service that will sell you an address to make it look like you do business in Indiana ??? (which will cost more money)
-Background Check $20
-They want your education level, experience, references...What? Is this a job application or an application to work in their town?

Rough idea of the cost of doing business in the village of Hammond:

-Take a test $100
-License Fee $200
-Background check $20
-Foreign Certificate $125
-permit $200

The rough estimate of the fees that Hammond Indiana will charge a contractor before we even start on a home. Who in the end pays these fees of $645? The residents that live in Hammond because the contractor has to off set his costs and has to charge the home owner.

How can the village of Indiana expect business professionals to spend countless days and spend lots of money on their regulations to do work in their town? They must not want the people that live in that town the luxuries of upgrades and renovations in their homes. If these rules continue the town of Hammond Indiana will be in shambles with low to stagnant growth because the village is pushing out all businesses that try to do any kind of work.

Something needs to be changed in this town!
