An Ivy League institution that counts poet Robert Frost, author Theodor Dr. Suess Geisel and former vice president Nelson Rockefeller among its alumni, Dartmouth College is a private, four-year, coeducational undergraduate college located in Hanover, N.H. Each year 7,000-plus students enroll in its programs of study, which include anthropology, biology, chemistry, computer science, economics, education, engineering, English, film and television, geography, history, mathematics, medicine, music, philosophy, physics, religion, sociology and theater. More than 200 student-run organizations are available to students at Dartmouth, including orchestras, radio stations, religious organizations, affinity groups, numerous publications and political, economic, social, sports and recreational organizations. The college also maintains more than 30 intercollegiate sports teams that are affiliated with the NCAA Division I s Ivy League and Eastern Collegiate Athletic conferences. Founded by the Rev. Eleazar Wheelock in 1769, Dartmouth is the United States ninth-oldest college.
