Since 1978 Tom has been preparing income tax returns for a stable core group of clients with a wide range of tax preparation needs. From first time home owners to those selling their homes after successful careers or when the need to relocate arose; for those who own and rent a single townhouse or those who own several rental properties; for market savvy investors with income from interest/dividends or the purchase and sale of stocks or options; for self-employed professionals such as real estate agents, manufacturers' representatives, computer consultants or building home improvement contractors. Tom Graduated from Penn State University in May 1977 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and a minor in Finance. Tom's professional life began at the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue from 1977 through November 1985 in both personal income tax and corporate tax. In November 1985 Tom joined the Public Utility Commission as a Financial Analyst and testified against natural gas company base rate increase requests. After thirty-five years of state service Tom retired in January 2013 and decided to concentrate on building an income tax preparation business focused mostly on individual tax issues with some corporate or business clients just for fun. So, if you are looking for someone to prepare your income tax returns for the first time, due to a new circumstance or your old taxman retired or became too busy please contact me via this website, e-mail or phone.

Services/Products
ServiceMaher's Tax Service has been providing personal income tax preparation for clients since the 1978 tax year. My client base consists of self-employed contractors, home-based business owners, real estate agents and musicians who file Schedule C and make estimated quarterly tax payments; land lords who own one or several rental properties and file Schedule E; recently retired individuals; families who itemize their deductions, have unique dependent circumstances, need to claim education credits or the Earned Income Credit. All Federal and State returns are filed electronically, as required by the IRS for paid tax professionals preparing more than eleven tax returns each year. Schedule C Schedule C is used to calculate the profit or loss of a business owner such as a real estate agent, landlord, insurance salesmen, beauticians or building contractors and landscapers, among others. New for tax year 2014 are the Standard Mileage Rate of 56 cents and a Simplified Method for claiming an Office in Home expense. As always, when completing this Schedule it is important to include accurate miles driven each tax year for business as well as the cost of parking fees and tolls. Maher's Tax Service has the experience to help you identify all of your business expenses and thus reduce the amount of self-employment tax due as well as income taxes and quarterly payments.
